Thereafter, you have to start thinking about the desk chair to go with the desk. This is not always as straight forward as the desk because you have to consider other issues, particularly that pertaining to your office health. By office health, I mean the stress that comes of long hours of work behind the desk and particularly in front of the computer.
As you work at your desk or on your computer, you are bound to put yourself under a lot of stress and will have to cope with the attendant signs on your physical body. The result of your long and likely hectic work schedule usually is strain on your back and aches all over your body particularly the neck and back region. You will need to get yourself a desk chair which takes care of that. There are some factors which you have to look at when shopping for a chair with those problems in mind. You have to choose a chair on the basis of the comfort it provides as well as its ergonomic features. First, the comfort issue; this is paramount in that you have to ensure that you reduce the incidence of body aches and pains or you will not be able to achieve much in that office and behind that desk. Ergonomically speaking, the desk chair you choose has to be able to offer protection for your body particularly the regions which are most susceptible to aches like the lumbar region.
I will explain a few ergonomic features which you should ensure is available in your choice of a chair to accompany your office desk.
-
Adjustable tilt. This ergonomic feature is very important in a desk chair. It makes it possible for you to change the position of the chair in alignment with your posture thus preventing you from having to feel the weight of your body in the wrong places.
-
Height adjustment. In a normal office chair, you will not be able to adjust the way the chair is made but for a desk chair with a height adjustment, you will be able to make adjustments to the height of the back rest and allow it to support your spine by following its contours.
-
Arm rests. These allow you to maintain the right height at which to work on the computer and that is elbow height. It is also very important that the arm rest be adjustable and not used while typing or working on the computer as this could be a source of hindrance to your body.
-
Seat adjustment. The seat depth has to be adjustable in order for you to be able to firmly place your feet on the floor or you are not tall, on the footrest on the chair.
